Ranikhet, home to the Kumaon Regiment and bristling with good old-fashioned military atmosphere, spreads over rolling green hills with some lovely views over the distant Himalayas. The focus of the town is a busy bazaar area, but you don’t have to walk far along the winding Mall Road to be immersed in forest and tall English trees. Apart from a military museum, some peaceful walks and views of snowcapped peaks, there’s not much to do in in Ranikhet.

The town of Ranikhet is at an average elevation of about 1,900 m (6,100 ft.).  It can become very cold in the winter, but remains moderate in summers, and is best enjoyed from March to October. Ranikhet gets snowfall in the winter season, mainly in the months of December, January and February. But in the rest of the year the weather of Ranikhet remains pleasant. Places to visit include the Kumaon Regimental Centre Museum, the Jhula Devi Temple, and the Rama Mandir.
